NEW DELHI: Putting an end to all the speculations over the CBSE class 12 board exams, the central government has called for its cancellation in wake of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. The decision to cancel class 12 CBSE board exam was taken at a meeting that was headed by the prime minister, Narendra Modi. The decision was taken keeping in mind the health and safety of the students. In the meeting, it was decided that CBSE class 12 board results will be compiled as per the well defined criteria in a time-bound manner.

In the meeting, the officials gave a detailed presentation on the consultation held so far and views received from various stakeholders and state governments. Due to a surge in COVID-19 cases and requests received by the students, the decision to cancel CBSE Class 12 exams has been taken.
PM Modi’s tweet reads, “Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as the future of our youth.”

Decision taken as per interest of students
The decision on cancellation of Class 12 board exams has been taken as per the request of students. PM Modi said that corona cases across the nation are under control. Some states have imposed lockdown while some are managing the situation through micro-containment zones.
The parents, students and teachers are worried about the health of candidates appearing for CBSE boards. The PM said that the students “should not be forced to appear for the exams in such a stressful situation.”

CBSE class 12 board results
With the cancellation of board exams, the evaluation method will be decided later in a time-bound manner. For the preparation of the results without conducting the entrance exams, PM Modi has requested the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to follow well-defined criteria within a particular time frame.

After the continuous efforts to postpone CBSE board exams, the Delhi CM expressed his joy through his tweet. The tweet reads that I am glad 12th exams have been cancelled.” He said that all the parents and students were very worried about their health. It is a big relief.

The meeting was attended by Amit Shah – Home Minister, Rajnath Singh – Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman – Finance Minister, Piyush Goyal – Commerce & Industry Minister, Prakash Javadekar – Information & Broadcasting Minister, Smriti Irani – Petroleum and Women & Child Development. The Principal Secretary to PM, Cabinet Secretary & secretaries of school education & higher education departments and other officials.
Earlier, a high-level meeting was held on May 23, 2021, chaired by the defence minister, Rajnath Singh with all the stakeholders, state education ministers and chief ministers.
